September Update 2018

September Update - 2018

Welcome to my fifth blog posting on the Romans 15:8 Leaders Network page. Rather than focusing on a teaching reflection this month, I want to share with you a very special invitation, exclusive to the Romans 15.8 network. Please see below:

Special invitation!

Our ministry colleagues at Chosen People Ministries, in partnership with King’s Evangelical Divinity School (KEDS), are hosting a major Apologetics Conference. The theme is the Bible and Culture, and there are 5 key speakers - Michael Brown, Darrel Bock, Calvin Smith, Mitch Glaser and Tim Mercaldo. Subjects to be addressed include Jesus in the Old Testament, Being Salt and Light in a Post-Christian World, Israel, the Jewish People and the Truth of Scripture and The Jewish People as a Role Model for Faithfulness in a Faithless World. For more details click here.

I have recently had the privilege of listening to 4 of the 5 speakers and I can highly recommend all of them. Also two years ago, I spoke on the theme of the Gospel and Culture at a seminar hosted by KEDS, so once again I know of the depth and breadth of similar events co-ordinated by KEDS.

The event is on Saturday 6th October at St Paul’s Church, Hammersmith, W6 9PJ. The day starts at 9.00am and finishes at 5.45pm. Lunch is provided in the booking fee of £25, but I have 5 free tickets to give away to the first 5 Romans 15:8 members to send me an e-mail (alexj@cmj.org.uk) requesting attendance at this special event.

Looking forward to meeting with you at this day conference!

Shalom Alex

Ministry News update

Since my last blog I have accepted three preaching invitations. I would also value your prayers for these occasions. The preaching venues are Christ Church, Jerusalem (Advent Sunday 2nd December), North London Messianic Fellowship (Saturday 15th December) and Stamford Hill United Church (Sunday 6th January).

Book News

I am very pleased to suggest two books for reading this month.

Firstly, I recommend “Reading the Gospels Wisely” by Jonathan T Pennington. This book was first published by Baker Academic in 2012. I re-read this book a few weeks ago while preparing a talk for the CMJ Reps conference in Manchester (14th - 15th September) on the theme of how to study and apply the Bible.

Secondly, I recommend a very different type of book by Gerry Black. The book is “Jewish London - An Illustrated History”. The book covers a large range of history and engages with a number of key social, religious and political issues. Plus as the title suggests there are some great illustrations and wonderful photographs. The book was first published in 2007 by Breedon Publishers.

Monthly Memory Verse

“Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at His coming.”

(1 Peter 1:13 - NIV)
